Working out can be frustrating, especially if it’s your first time and you don’t really know what to do, right?

In this email, I am going to go through 4 best practices beginners should follow when working out enabling you to get the most out of your workout.

Avoiding these mistakes at the gym could save you time and energy but most importantly, make sure you don’t injure yourself during your workout sessions.

Below, I have provided you with some insider secrets to help you achieve the best results with a focused path and clear direction.

No. 1: Routines

Stepping foot into the gym without a planned exercise routine is like walking into your local supermarket without a shopping list…
You’ll end up wandering aimlessly from machine to machine with no clear direction or strategy. Wasted time, is wasted energy.

Have a mental note, or even better, write down your workout routine on a piece of paper or your phone to help you keep track of what you will be doing in the gym.

And if you’re training with a partner?

Discuss it together and identify a training plan with both your ideas. Two brains are better than one! But remember, you may not both be suited to the same schedule.

No. 2: Warm Up

Hold on!

Before you make your way towards the weights or the treadmill… think about warming up.

Skip this and it might hurt you, literally…

Warm ups are intended to slowly ease you into your workout routine by gradually increasing your heart rate and circulation. This will loosen the joints and increase blood flow to the muscles.

Stretching also helps, as it prepares your muscles for various physical activities and helps to prevent injury.

No. 3: Weights first, cardio second

It’s recommended that you do your cardio AFTER hitting the weights.

When the body spends roughly 10 to 20 minutes jogging on the treadmill, you may find yourself too fatigued to lift weights with proper form.

I would recommend weights first and spending the little bit of energy you have left to do cardio.

No. 4: Alternate your workouts

At some point, you may find yourself empty handed with your favorite machine taken. We have all been there, believe me!

Instead of waiting around and wasting time and ultimately losing your momentum, have a backup plan!

If the gym equipment you wanted is currently being used, make sure you have a machine or workout that hits the same muscle.

Having an arsenal of exercises at your disposal will come a long way in a crowded gym. Plus, with your new exercises, you can change up your routine every few weeks to make sure your workouts don’t become too repetitive and eventually boring.
